Sports hold an important place in human life with their positive
contributions. Sports become an integral part of life in societies that prioritize
physical and mental development. Sporting activities require structured
training programs. The sustainability of these activities or training can be
associated with fitness. Fitness involves planned and continuous loads to
increase sports performance, enhance the athlete's capacity for work, and
develop motor skills (Uluç, 2023). Sporting activities and training sessions also
come with the risk of sports accidents and injuries. The negative consequences
of these situations on individuals have been discussed. Looking at the literature,
sports injuries in different disciplines have been linked to a lack of fitness,
emphasizing the importance of fitness training

In today's context, Pilates stands out as a prevalent exercise approach
among women. Developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates (1880-1967), this
method draws inspiration from both Eastern and Western philosophies,
blending yoga's mental focus and specialized breathing techniques with the
physical elements of gymnastics and other sports. Pilates offers various
benefits as an exercise method. It can enhance flexibility, strength, and
endurance while benefiting from one of its principles, emphasizing the
importance of full and deep breathing. Maintaining a healthy body includes
losing body fat, maintaining an ideal balance, and having elastic muscle
strength and a flexible spine, all of which the Pilates method effectively
addresses as a means to achieve these goals. Hence, the significance of
consistently engaging in Pilates exercises becomes apparent. This study aims
to provide general information about Pilates and examine the impact Pilates
exercises have on body composition when performed regularly, based on
studies that elucidate this aspect

Regular physical activity has been shown to enhance cognitive
function and protect against age-related cognitive decline. Regular physical
activity increases blood flow and oxygen intake to the brain. This, in turn,
promotes the release of growth factors such as brain-derived neurotrophic
factor (BDNF) that stimulate the formation and growth of new brain cells.
Additionally, exercise enhances focus, concentration, and overall mental
clarity. In this context, this systematic review aims to examine and interpret the
effects of exercise on brain functions through systematic review methods. The
research was conducted by comprehensively scanning the literature on
"Exercise, Brain, and Brain Functions" and structuring it as a systematic
review. Analytical methods were used to interconnect the data, allowing for an
in-depth investigation of the subject. The interpretative approach was utilized
to make sense of the effects of exercise on brain functions, emphasizing the
meanings individuals attribute to exercise and their experiences. This
hermeneutic approach can be considered a form of "understanding" pedagogy,
used to explain the data in the literature based on individuals' experiences.
When examining the research results, studies on exercise and brain functions
conducted between 2011 and 2024 were evaluated. Out of 24 studies reviewed,
6 met the inclusion criteria. Consequently, exercise practices enhance
neuroplasticity, improve cognitive function and daily life skills, and support
neurogenesis. Furthermore, exercise has been found to modulate a range of
support systems for brain maintenance and plasticity, including enhanced
metabolism and angiogenesis, parallel to its benefits in improving clinical
symptoms

In this study, the aim is to examine the physical and psychological effects of food intolerance in
sedentary individuals aged 30-45. For this purpose, a cross-sectional study was conducted using
a survey model. The study population consisted of 48 sedentary individuals diagnosed with
food intolerance in 2017 at an internationally accredited private healthcare institution in
Istanbul. The sample group included 40 individuals, comprising 20 women and 20 men, who
participated voluntarily. Data collection was conducted using the ‘‘Personal Information Form,’’
‘‘Food Intolerance Impact Questionnaire,’’ ‘‘International Physical Activity Questionnaire’’ (IPAQ),
and ‘‘SF-36 Quality of Life Scale.’’ SPSS 22 statistical software was used for the evaluation and
analysis of the collected data. Basic statistics, such as mean and standard deviation, were
employed to understand the general characteristics of the data. The findings were interpreted
in tabular form. The study’s findings primarily showed that the physical activity levels of the
participants fell below the recommended health standards, reflecting a sedentary lifestyle;
indeed, half of the participants (50%) reported not engaging in even light activities, such as
walking, within the past week. On the other hand, the study’s findings revealed that
interventions related to food intolerance had significant effects on participants’ health and
quality of life, with notable changes in areas such as sleep quality, energy levels, weight loss, and
digestive complaints, although limitations in areas like social functionality persisted. Among our
recommendations is the adoption of a multidisciplinary approach to improve the quality of life
for individuals with food intolerance, highlighting the importance of collaboration among
experts from different disciplines, such as nutritionists, psychologists, and physical therapists

This review study aims to examine the effects of physical activity and dietary habits on healthy
living and quality of life. The study comprehensively explores the negative impacts of a
sedentary lifestyle on individuals' physical and mental health while emphasizing the positive
contributions of regular physical activity and balanced nutrition to overall well-being. In this
context, data from scientifically validated studies in the literature have been synthesized,
evaluating the relationship between levels of physical activity, dietary habits, and health
parameters. Drawing on systematic reviews and meta-analyses, the complementary roles of
physical activity and healthy eating in enhancing quality of life are analyzed. The review
highlights the significance of individual and societal interventions to promote healthy living,
with a particular focus on increasing physical activity and improving dietary habits. The study
aims to propose actionable approaches to reduce age- and lifestyle-related health risks and to
contribute to the existing body of knowledge in this field. Accordingly, the necessity of
addressing strategies for increasing physical activity, mitigating the effects of a sedentary
lifestyle, and encouraging balanced nutritional practices at both individual and societal levels is
underscored.

The body composition measurements of 24 male individuals who received swimming training and whose average sports age was 2.30 ± .57 years were taken. At the same time, their 50 m, 100 m and 200 m freestyle and backstroke swimming times were determined. The analysis of the obtained data was performed using descriptive and correlation tests in the SPSS 27 package program. The study findings revealed that 50 m freestyle swimming performance and body compositions showed a negative significance (p&lt;0.05). It was determined that 100 m freestyle swimming performance had a negative, significant (p&lt;0.05) relationship with all other studied parameters except the age variable. Again, it was determined that the negative relationship between 200 m freestyle swimming performance and body compositions was significant (p&lt;0.05). It was observed that there was a significant (p&lt;0.05) relationship between 50 m backstroke swimming performance and height, shoulder width, hand, foot and leg length. It was revealed that there was a significant relationship between 100 m and 200 m backstroke swimming performance and height, body weight, stroke, hand, foot and leg length at p&lt;0.05 level. As a result, it was revealed that almost all of the studied body compositions positively affected the performance in different swimming styles, and only these effect levels differed in terms of significance. In this context, it is thought that body compositions can be used as indicators in swimmer selection.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-01.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Swimming performance</keyword> <keyword>Body composition</keyword> <keyword>Relationship</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 2. The application performed by bleeding the skin is called wet cupping (hijama). One of the most important parameters in athletic success is muscle strength. Our aim is to investigate the effect of wet cupping application on muscle strength, muscle soreness and sleep quality. Fourteen volunteer men aged 20–24 were included in this study. Volunteers were divided into two groups: cupping application group (CAG, n=7) and control group (CG, n=7). After warm-up and resistance exercises, quadriceps muscle strength was measured, wet cupping was applied to the CAG, and muscle strength, soreness (VAS) and sleep quality were followed over 72 hours. In the control group the same protocol was applied without cupping. VAS values were significantly lower and sleep quality scores significantly higher in CAG compared to CG, while no significant difference was found in quadriceps strength. According to these results, wet cupping reduces muscle soreness and improves sleep quality but does not increase muscle strength.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-02.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Wet cupping</keyword> <keyword>Hijama</keyword> <keyword>Muscle strength</keyword> <keyword>Muscle soreness</keyword> <keyword>Sleep quality</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 3. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the muscular contraction performance level of weightlifters using the continuum zone repetition method within an autoregulation resistance training periodization. Materials and methods: Eight male and female weightlifters participated in a 3-week, 2-day-per-week autoregulation resistance training programme including 10RM (hypertrophy zone) and 6RM (power zone). One repetition maximum (1RM), 50%1RM, 70%1RM and 85%1RM loads and repetitions were monitored to detect non-linear concentric load changes. Results: 1RM outcomes in countermovement jump shrug and bent-over row increased significantly, whereas isometric deadlift and overhead press did not. In general, loading increased while repetitions decreased under different muscular exercise conditions. Conclusion: Autoregulation resistance training using resistance zones and concentric load programmes can improve muscular performance in weightlifters in the short term by increasing concentric load and optimising repetition schemes.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-05.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Continuum zone repetition</keyword> <keyword>Autoregulation resistance training</keyword> <keyword>Short term periodization</keyword> <keyword>Weightlifters</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 6. From the late 20th century onward, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) adopted policies to increase female participation, culminating in full gender parity at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This study examines the historical development and current state of gender equality in the modern Olympics using PESTEL and trend analysis. Political, economic, social, technological and legal strategies of the IOC are analysed to evaluate the impact of its gender equality policies. The study also discusses media representation, sponsorship and women’s rights movements. The main conclusion is that gender equality must be achieved not only in quantitative (numerical) terms but also qualitatively in terms of roles, visibility and conditions.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-06.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Gender equality</keyword> <keyword>Olympic Games</keyword> <keyword>IOC policies</keyword> <keyword>Paris 2024</keyword> <keyword>Female athletes</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 7. A qualitative research design based on phenomenology was used, and the sample consisted of eight national athletes. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using content analysis in NVivo. Findings showed that professional athletes do not only focus on physical performance but also attach great importance to mental health. National symbols such as the flag and national anthem were reported as strong motivational factors that reinforce responsibility and enhance performance. However, athletes also struggle with stress, anxiety and pressure, underlining the need for psychological resilience. Some athletes were able to turn pressure into a source of motivation through intrinsic motivation and psychological toughness. The study recommends strengthening coach–athlete relationships, supporting emotional and mental recovery, guiding athletes during breaks, and providing personalised psychological support based on individual motivation and resilience levels.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-09.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Motivation</keyword> <keyword>Performance</keyword> <keyword>Psychology</keyword> <keyword>Sport</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 10. Forty male students (mean age 12.95±0.67 years) took part, 20 of whom had been engaged in folk dance for about five years, while 20 led a sedentary lifestyle. Trunk stabilization was assessed using plank, side plank, Sorensen back extension and sit-up tests; balance was evaluated with the star excursion balance test and stork balance test; and flexibility with the sit-and-reach test. Statistical analyses (p&lt;0.05) revealed significantly higher performance in the folk dance group in all parameters, including plank, sit-up, Sorensen and balance tests, as well as higher flexibility scores. These findings suggest that folk dance training enhances core stability, balance and flexibility, and may be an effective physical activity to improve musculoskeletal health in children.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-10.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Flexibility</keyword> <keyword>Balance</keyword> <keyword>Folk dances</keyword> <keyword>Core stabilization</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 11. The sample consisted of 155 volunteer academics working at Artvin Çoruh University. The Personal Information Form, Adult Eating Behaviour Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Job Stress Scale were used as data collection tools. After normality checks, data were analysed using independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and regression analysis (p&lt;.05). Results showed significant relationships between job stress, eating behaviour and sleep quality. Female academics reported significantly higher job stress scores than males. Job stress decreased with increasing age and academic experience, with the highest stress observed in those with 1–10 years of experience. No significant differences were found by academic title. Female participants had significantly higher scores in satiety and emotional overeating, while no gender differences were found in other subscales. Only the hunger subscale differed by experience, being higher in those with 6–10 years. Sleep quality improved with age, and research assistants/lecturers had better sleep quality scores than higher-title groups. There was no significant relationship between job stress and eating behaviour, but a positive and significant relationship was found between job stress and poorer sleep quality. Regression analysis showed that job stress significantly predicted sleep quality, explaining about 7% of its variance. Strengthening stress management, work–life balance and psychological support programmes for academics is recommended.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-11.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Academician</keyword> <keyword>Job stress</keyword> <keyword>Eating behaviour</keyword> <keyword>Sleep quality</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 1. Peer-reviewed studies focusing on technical skill development in youth tennis players were identified through searches in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The findings indicate that technical learning should not be viewed solely as motor skill acquisition, but rather as a multidimensional process shaped by growth and maturation, equipment and court scaling, attentional focus, feedback strategies, and game-based pedagogical approaches. Game-based, variable, and age-appropriate training models are more effective than traditional blocked practice in enhancing technical accuracy, retention, and transfer to match play. Furthermore, external focus instructions, self-regulated feedback, and functional neuromuscular training are reported to support technical stability, movement quality, and postural control. Overall, the evidence suggests that age- and maturation-sensitive, individualised and multidisciplinary training approaches are essential for the sustainable and healthy development of technical formation in young tennis players.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-12.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Child</keyword> <keyword>Tennis</keyword> <keyword>Technical formation</keyword> <keyword>Motor learning</keyword> <keyword>Training</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 2. The frequency, duration, methods, and volumes of body weight loss, as well as their impact on female athletes’ strength indicators, were identified. It was found that highly qualified female athletes more often use rapid weight loss methods (1–3 days before the competition), lose more than 5 kg and mainly use starvation. Simultaneously, qualified female athletes demonstrate greater variability of approaches and are more often negatively affected by strength abilities. The data obtained from coaches generally confirm the trends identified among female athletes. The results of the study can be used to optimize strategies for pre-competition body weight regulation in female athletes in power sports in general and in powerlifting in particular, taking into account individual characteristics and level of qualification.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-13.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Powerlifting</keyword> <keyword>Weight loss</keyword> <keyword>Pre-competition training</keyword> <keyword>Strength sports</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 3. A total of 17 licensed swimmers, 7 girls and 10 boys, aged 9-10 from Toroslar Sports Club participated in this study. After determining the leg volume of the athletes with the frustum method, the linear regression formula was used. The complementarity coefficient of this formula is R2 = .95 and the standard error of the estimate is .056. In determining the anaerobic power, a vertical jump test, the validity and reliability of which is accepted by sports scientists, was performed. The value was recorded in cm and the jumped distance was calculated by substituting it in the Lewis formula. Shapiro-Wilk Test was applied to determine whether the data were normally distributed. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, minimum-maximum, median, percentage distributions were used to understand the general distribution and characteristics of the data. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the linear relationships between the total leg volume of the athletes and their underwater dolphin kick performances. According to the results, there was a positive and significant relationship between total leg volume and vertical jump performance (r=0.752; p&lt;0.05), while the negative relationships between total leg volume and dolphin kick time and between vertical jump and dolphin kick time were not found to be statistically significant (p&gt;0.05). The study shows that leg volume and anaerobic power are related, but additional factors such as technique, coordination and flexibility should also be taken into account in underwater dolphin kick performance. A total of 293 (103 OG and 190 WC) videos of bouts were watched and analyzed by the Dartfish Connect Plus 8.0 match analysis program. Bout analyses were performed according to 1) bout analysis preparation, 2) searching and tagging, 3) database creation, and 4) data usage procedures. Wrestling techniques were grouped into takedowns and throws in standing position and flips and throws in parterre position. Points were determined according to time and periods, standing and parterre position, winning types, attacks, and counter-attacks. There is a significant difference between attacks and counter-attacks in WC and OG (p&lt;0.05; x2 = 31.689). The types of victories in WC and OG are 63.7% and 73.8% by point, respectively. In the first and second periods, technical points are determined according to wrestling actions (WAmean) 1.74 and 1.76 (t=0.488, Cohen’s d = .031), 1.66 and 1.69 (t=0.567, Cohen’s d = .048) in WC and OG, respectively. Most wrestling techniques are performed in the standing position (WC 58.8% and OG 68.2%). Leg Attack is the most used technique in the standing position (WC 17.9% and OG 21.8%). In conclusion, techniques that earn two points, attack movements, performed at the standing position, such as leg attack, take down, and push to out, are important in elite wrestling matches.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-17.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Wrestling</keyword> <keyword>Performance</keyword> <keyword>Match analyses</keyword> <keyword>Elite athlete</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 7. For this purpose, a service quality scale was applied to 374 individuals who go to regular fitness centers. When the scale scores were analyzed, it was understood that the total service quality scale scores of the participants were high and the facilities met their expectations. In addition, significant differences were found between the expectation scores and perceived scores in the personnel, program, locker rooms and facility sub-dimensions (p&lt;0.05). The analysis showed that the only significant difference was in the Program expected, where women had higher expectations than men (p=0.002). In addition, a significant positive correlation was found between age and monthly income (r = 0.578, p&lt;0.01), meaning as age increases, monthly income tends to increase as well. In light of these findings, it can be said that in order to increase the service quality perceived by users, it would be beneficial to give importance to personnel training, increase facility opportunities and emphasize program diversity.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-18.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Fitness center</keyword> <keyword>Service quality</keyword> <keyword>Facility management</keyword> <keyword>User satisfaction</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 8. The average height of the participants included in the study is 144±57 cm, their average body weight is 38±29 kg, and their average sports age is 2±29 years. Individuals receiving swimming training were divided into experimental (24) and control (11) groups. Before and after the exercise, their height, body weight, pulling and pushing forces of both arms in freestyle and pulling and pushing forces of both arms in supine style were determined. Pushing and pulling forces of both legs were determined in freestyle and supine styles. In addition to these measurements, the participants’ 50m, 100m, 200m freestyle and backstroke swimming times were determined. SPSS 26.00 package program was used to analyze the data. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that right and left arm pushing and pulling forces created significant differences in freestyle distances of 50m, 100m, 200m. In the backstroke swimming distances of 50m, 100m, 200m, the pretest and posttest values of all groups were found to be significant (p&lt;0.05). As a result of leg strength, it was determined that there was a significant difference in right and left pushing and pulling forces in freestyle distances of 50m, 100m, 200m. It was determined that there was no significant relationship between leg strength values in the supine style (p&gt;0.05). As a result, it can be said that the applied core training affects arm and leg pushing and pulling forces, and also has a positive effect on arm and leg strengths in 50 m, 100 m, 200 m swimming times in both styles.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-19.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Swimming</keyword> <keyword>Core</keyword> <keyword>Training</keyword> <keyword>Effect</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 9. The research was conducted using the relational survey model, a quantitative research method. A total of 99 Boccia athletes (27 women, 62 men) aged between 18 and 58 (mean age = 33.76 ± 11.22) voluntarily participated in the study. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Athlete Mindfulness Questionnaire, and the Athletic Coping Skills Inventory-26. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 software. Since the data showed a normal distribution, independent samples t-tests were used for pairwise comparisons, while ANOVA was applied for multiple comparisons. The relationships between variables were examined using Pearson correlation analysis to determine the direction and strength of associations. Additionally, simple linear regression analysis was conducted to assess how variations in one variable influenced the other. The findings revealed a statistically significant, strong, and positive correlation between mindfulness levels and athletic coping skills among the athletes. Regression analysis indicated that mindfulness levels were a significant predictor of coping skills, explaining 21% of the variance (p&lt;0.05). Significant differences were observed in athletic coping skills and mindfulness in sports based on age, while gender differences were found to be significant in coping skills. However, no significant differences were found concerning national athlete status, competition classification, or years of athletic experience. In conclusion, the results suggest that as athletes’ mindfulness levels increase, their ability to cope with sports-related challenges improves. Furthermore, the findings indicate that male athletes demonstrate better performance under pressure, while athletes aged 18–25 may require additional training and support to enhance their goal-setting, mental preparation, concentration, confidence, motivation, and focus skills.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-21.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>Disability</keyword> <keyword>Boccia</keyword> <keyword>Athletic coping skills</keyword> <keyword>Mindfulness</keyword> </keywords> <!-- 11. While the number of students in school teams was 330, the number of students who were not in school teams was 391. As a result of the analyses performed with the SPSS 27.0 package program, it was determined that the data showed normal distribution and parametric tests were applied. According to the research findings, no statistical difference was found in the gender variable in the sense of belonging to the school. Middle school students’ sense of school belonging scores are higher and statistically significant than the average scores of high school students. However, according to the variables of taking part in the school team, supporting the family’s child to do sports, and school administration/teachers supporting the student to do sports, it was determined that the school-belonging scores of the participants who said yes were higher and statistically significant compared to the participants who said no.
<fullTextUrl format="pdf">https://www.ijoss.org/Archive/issue2-volume2/ijoss-Volume2-issue2-22.pdf</fullTextUrl> <keywords language="eng"> <keyword>School belonging</keyword> <keyword>School sports</keyword> <keyword>Education</keyword> <keyword>Training</keyword> </keywords> <startPage>247</startPage> <endPage>246</endPage> <doi>https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17676121</doi> <documentType>article</documentType> <title language="eng">Psychological Gains of Parents Throughout the Athletic Journey</title> <authors> <author> <name>Gökhan Arıkan</name> <affiliationId>1</affiliationId> <orcid_id>0000-0001-8491-1941</orcid_id> </author> <author> <name>Mesut Çayır</name> <affiliationId>2</affiliationId> <orcid_id>0009-0003-8928-3421</orcid_id> </author> </authors> <affiliationsList> <affiliationName affiliationId="1">Harran University, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, Şanlıurfa, Türkiye</affiliationName> <affiliationName affiliationId="2">Harran University, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, Şanlıurfa, Türkiye</affiliationName> </affiliationsList> <History> <PubDate PubStatus="received"> <Year>2025</Year> <Month>05</Month> <Day>12</Day> </PubDate> <PubDate PubStatus="accepted"> <Year>2025</Year> <Month>06</Month> <Day>25</Day> </PubDate> <PubDate PubStatus="published"> <Year>2025</Year> <Month>06</Month> <Day>30</Day> </PubDate> </History>
Sport is an important activity that contributes not only to an individual’s physical health but also to their psychological development.
