Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the positive mental health and psychological recovery levels of students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences in terms of gender, type of sport, duration of sports and department variables and to determine the relationship between these two variables. The study is a descriptive study based on the quantitative screening model. The study group consisted of 437 students studying at the Faculties of Sports Sciences of different universities in the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were collected using the Positive Mental Health Scale and the Psychological Recovery Scale. In the analysis of the data, the assumption of normal distribution was tested according to skewness and kurtosis values and it was determined that parametric tests were applicable. Independent sample t-test was used in paired group comparisons, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used in three or more group comparisons; post-hoc analyzes were performed with the Tukey test in significant differences. Relationships between variables were examined with Pearson correlation analysis, and Cohen’s d and eta squared (η²) coefficients were calculated for effect size. The findings showed that female students had higher levels of positive mental health and psychological recovery than male students; individual athletes had higher levels of positive mental health than team athletes; and students who played sports for a long time had higher levels of positive mental health than those who played sports for a shorter time. In addition, it was determined that students of the Coach Education and Sports Management department had higher levels of positive mental health than students of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. A positive and significant relationship was found between positive mental health and psychological recovery. As a result, it was revealed that the positive mental health and psychological recovery levels of university students differed significantly according to various individual and academic variables and that these two structures were strongly related to each other.
