Abstract
Athletes’ perceptions of their own performance during competitions or matches represent a critical element that completes the overall performance evaluation process. Therefore, it is essential to consider not only physical, technical, and tactical competencies but also components such as self-confidence, self-efficacy, goal setting, motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic motivational mechanisms, and sensorimotor skill integration in performance evaluations. The aim of this study is to develop the “Perceived Performance in Sports Scale” designed to assess the perceived performance levels of amateur and professional athletes competing in individual and team sports across physical, technical, tactical, psychological, and environmental dimensions. The study involved 193 voluntarily participating athletes actively competing in various sports disciplines. Based on a comprehensive literature review and expert opinions, an initial item pool consisting of 36 items was created. Following validity and reliability analyses, a final scale comprising 25 items across five subdimensions was obtained. Findings from Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) demonstrated that the scale exhibits a five-factor structure, accounting for 76.524% of the total variance. The internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach’s Alpha) was calculated as 0.925. Additionally, Average Variance Extracted (AVE) and Composite Reliability (CR) analyses confirmed the convergent validity and internal consistency of the scale. In conclusion, this scale can be used as a valid and reliable instrument for comprehensively assessing athletes’ perceived performance across physical, technical, tactical, psychological, and environmental dimensions. The Perceived Performance in Sports Scale is a valuable tool for academics, coaches, and sports psychologists in athlete development, performance analysis, and psychological assessment processes.
