Abstract

The effects of exercise on resting metabolic rate (RMR) and body composition have been investigated in different studies. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA 500) used during the exercise period on RMR, body mass index (BMI), body weight, chest, waist and hip circumference measurements. A total of 22 female volunteers, 11 in the control (only exercise) and 11 in the experimental (exercise + CLA use) groups, with an average age of 34.91 ± 7.37 years and an average height of 165.18 ± 3.76 cm, were included in the study. In this eight-week study, measurements were taken three times before starting the study and at the end of the fourth and eighth weeks. The same exercise program (Table 2) was applied to both groups at the same time three days a week. In addition to the experimental group, 6 capsules of CLA were supplemented per week, two before each meal, as recommended. The data obtained at the end of the study were analyzed using the SPSS 26 package program. Descriptive and repeated measures and t tests were used as parametric tests. As a result of the analyses, although there was no significant difference (p> .05) in BMI, chest and hip circumference values, there was a significant (p<.05) greater decrease in DMH, body weight and waist circumference values in favor of the experimental group. As a result, it can be said that CLA supplementation together with exercise is more beneficial than exercise alone in improving body composition and increasing metabolic rate in women.
