Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of eight weeks of football skill training on some basic motor skills in 10-12 year old male football players. Twenty male athletes (average age: 11.1±0.7 years) participated in the study. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: the skill training group (n=10) and the control group (n=10). The skill training group performed skill training three days a week in addition to routine football training, while the control group continued their routine training. Both groups did the standing long jump, sit-and-reach, flamingo balance, agility, arm movement speed, and handgrip strength tests before and after the training program. The Jamovi package program used for data analysis. The significance level was accepted as p<0.05. In the skill training group, significant improvements were found in agility, arm movement speed, and handgrip strength after training (p<0,05). A significant decrease was observed in flexibility values in both groups (p<0,05). In post-test intergroup comparisons, significant differences were found in agility, arm movement speed, and balance, favoring the skill training group (p<0,05). In conclusion, eight weeks of football skill training improved some motor skills in 10-12 year old male football players. However, flexibility exercises should be included in training for flexibility development
