Abstract

Human beings have been in communication and interaction since their existence. With the development of technologies such as telephones and the internet, humanity provides fast and easy communication and interaction. In addition to the many benefits of these developing technologies, there are also aspects that negatively affect people. This study aims to contribute to the literature by examining individuals’ social media addiction levels, deviant leisure tendencies and attitudes towards violence against women in order to shed light on the solution of possible social problems. The participants of the study consists of a total of 660 participants, 265 male and 395 female, between the ages of 18-60. The Personal Information Form created by the researchers, the Adult Deviant Leisure Tendency Scale created by Bedir and his colleagues, the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale created by Demirci and the İSKEBE Violence Against Women Scale created by Kanbay and his colleagues were used as data collection tools in the study. The data are given as mean and standard deviation. The Kolmogorov Smirnov test was used to test the normality of the obtained data and it was determined that the data showed a normal distribution. In data analysis, independent t test was used to compare binary variables, one-way ANOVA test was used to compare multiple variables, Pearson correlation test was used in relational analyses and regression tests were used for prediction. When the data obtained from the research were examined, it was determined that there were significant differences between the groups in dependent and independent variables such as gender, gender equality belief, daily social media usage time and generation parameters. It was also determined that there were significant relationships between social media addiction and deviant leisure time tendency and violence against women.
