ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of non-dominant hand training on the accuracy percentage of backhand strokes in adolescent tennis players. The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design with a single-group pretest–posttest model. Fourteen athletes aged 13–18 years, each with at least three years of tennis experience, participated in the study. The athletes continued their regular tennis training five days per week for six weeks; in the final part of each training session, they performed technical and coordinative exercises with the non-dominant hand. Performance was evaluated using diagonal accuracy, parallel accuracy, total accuracy, and accuracy percentage variables. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Mann–Whitney U test, and Spearman correlation analysis. The findings showed significant improvements in favor of the posttest in all performance variables. Improvement scores did not differ according to gender. In conclusion, non-dominant hand training was found to be an effective and applicable method for improving backhand stroke accuracy in adolescent tennis players.

Keywords: Tennis, adolescent, training, backhand stroke.
