Abstract
Nutritional strategies play a decisive role in optimizing exercise performance and recovery processes. In recent years, athletes have increasingly moved beyond basic nutrition and turned to nutritional ergogenic aids to enhance their performance. Among these, creatine stands out as a widely used supplement that increases intramuscular phosphocreatine stores, thereby facilitating the rapid resynthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and supporting energy production, particularly during high-intensity exercise. In addition, creatine has been shown to exert positive effects on training adaptations, recovery processes, and muscle development. Synthesized endogenously and obtained through dietary intake, creatine is considered an effective and reliable ergogenic aid for improving athletic performance when used with appropriate protocols. The present study employed a bibliometric analysis to identify trends in scientific publications related to exercise and creatine. A total of 510 studies published between 2020 and 2025 in the Web of Science database and containing the keywords “exercise” and “creatine” were included in the analysis based on predefined inclusion criteria. The data were analyzed using VOSviewer (version 1.6.20), focusing on networks of authors, citations, countries, journals, institutions, and keywords. The findings revealed that while some researchers had a high number of publications, they exhibited low total link strength, whereas clustering was observed around certain key authors. Differences between citation counts and link strength were identified in country and journal analyses. Institutional analysis demonstrated that productive institutions also tended to have higher link strength. Keyword analysis indicated that the literature predominantly focuses on themes such as “exercise” and “muscle damage.” In conclusion, the literature on exercise and creatine appears to be clustered around specific themes, with a primary focus on performance enhancement and muscle damage-related outcomes.
